A Tour of the Taku Glacier
Alaska is a land of unparalleled natural beauty, with breathtaking scenery best experienced from the air. One of the best ways to take in all of Alaska's beauty is via a helicopter-fast boat tour, and there's no better place to start than the airport at Anchorage, where we boarded a helicopter for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
We signed up for an incredible adventure flying over the Taku Glacier with Northstar Trekking. As we took off, the stunning view of the surrounding landscape was breathtaking. Snow-capped peaks, dense forests, and pristine rivers were visible from above as cruise ships dotted the harbor as we passed over Juneau.
But the highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the Taku Glacier. Flying over the glacier was a visual feast as the colors and textures of the ice formations stunned the senses. The sight of the vast expanse of icy terrain is awe-inspiring.
After landing on the glacier, we took a fast boat ride around the edge. The boat ride is exhilarating, with waves crashing against the boat as we plow through the river passing towering icebergs and crystal-clear waterfalls, all set against the backdrop of the majestic glacier.
We stopped for walks on the glacier at several spots. After a 45-60 minute walkabout on the glacier, the helo retrieved us for a return trip to the Juneau International Airport.
How To Sign Up For A Tour
You can visit the Juneau International Airport to make the arrangements or pay for the jaunt at a concession in downtown Juneau. The cost, as we recall, is about $700 per person as of 2018. It's likely costs are higher now given the economic tumult in the country after the Presidential election of 2020.
Enjoy these views of Juneau and the glacier!
