Meet Julie. She’s a rover and entrepreneur on the road. And over the last five months she’s been roving internationally on solo or team treks in the United States, Thailand, Bali, and Italy. So, how does she do it?
From Corporate Nutritionist To World Roving Entrepreneur, Mountain Biker and Documentary Filmmaker
After garnering a Baccalaureate and Masters Degrees in nutrition, Julie started an organic energy bar business called Julie Bar. After three years of owning the business (along with teaching college-level nutrition courses), she decided that she did not want to be “tied down” in the conventional sense of working. She sold her shares and moved into a corporate job with the goal of saving up money to start traveling. After a year and a half, her corporate job became a physical and psychological anchor sapping her vitality.
But, wait a minute! Isn’t this what most high school Valedictorian’s and Summa Cum Laude graduates are supposed to be doing? Maybe. But after eight years, Julie had enough of all of it.
She began a company, with like-minded co-founders, coaching clients for cycling, triathlon, fitness, nutrition and wellness programs. In fact, you’ll find her on the Internet conducting webinars or leading social media discussions about health, wellness and nutrition when she’s not mountain biking.
By restructuring her work, Julie quickly gained control over her schedule. And it gave her the freedom to become a rover.

Becoming a rover, in part, means seizing serendipity, embarking on a new course and embracing the journey wherever it takes you. For Julie, these attitudes have led to her biggest adventure yet!
While climbing the half dome at Yosemite National Park in June 2015, she ran into Sarah, a film producer from London with work experience in Nepal. They hit it off. Quickly, they combined interests and skill sets envisaging a documentary film project — Endure Nepal.
The film will focus on female mountain bikers trekking through Nepal helping villager’s build sustainable greenhouses in the wake of the 2015 earthquake disaster. Julie brought her mountain biking network, social media and marketing skills to the project. Sarah brought her filmmaking skills, knowledge of Nepal and experiential contacts to the project. Each of them brought more team members with skills contributing to the endeavor.
We met Julie in Thailand basking in the shadows of a Terra Cotta Arts Garden Café in Chiang Mai while she was working on a business seminar and Endure Nepal. Her openness, quick, brilliant smile, forward-looking attitude, and positive energy were radiating.
We see these qualities with many rovers. They are happy with their lifestyles and their good fortune to enjoy what they do.
Now Julie spends her day’s mountain biking in some of the coolest riding areas around the world. And you can see the twinkle in her eyes and the broad smile across her face when she talks about it all. She wishes others could experience the joy she does every day.
