Review: Be smart like a Fox! Try Fox’s Pizza Den – Brunswick, Georgia

Update 2024: New ownership.

New owners now run this establishment. Many of the menu items remain. Gone are the experienced wait staff who worked here for years. Higher prices, somewhat lower quality are now in the mix. We still recommend this place but the quality and variety are diminished and service with a small is gone.

Fox’s Pizza Downtown Brunswick aka Fox’s Pizza Den

This restaurant in downtown Brunswick, Georgia is part of restaurant brand name chain. After we ate here, we found out by accident, that what one restaurant in this chain serves at one location, isn’t necessarily served by another chain restaurant in another location.

We stopped in for lunch on a Monday. Given many restaurants are closed on this day, we’re happy to note this is one place that remains open on this day.

Given the focus on Italian dishes, we focused on the same.  The extra large deluxe pizza, $22.49, was delicious. This is saying a lot, given the existence of Sal’s on St. Simons Island (Sal’s is closed on Mondays). The ingredients: tomato based red sauce, Pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and onions. We’d come back here for pizza anytime.

The Eggplant Rollatini, $7.49 was also very good. The ingredients? Thinly sliced eggplant wrapped around a melted blend of ricotta, Parmesan, and mozzarella. Lightly breaded, topped with marinara and baked with mozzarella. Add some spaghetti for just $1.00.

The food here is very good, with some dishes inexpensive. A visit to the area rekindles notions of the late 19th and early 20th century seafaring town occupying this still active shipping port. The area is chock full of acres of new cars awaiting delivery to dealerships around the country. And St. Simons and Jekyll Islands are only minutes away by car.

They offer specials after 5 pm. The one we’re looking forward to trying is 1/2 Pound of Steamed Mussels or clams, $13.99, served daily after 5 p.m. over Capellini pasta with a white wine, shallot, crushed tomato reduction, a light salad and crusty bread!

Other after 5 p.m. specials include:

Jamaica Mia Wrap $6.99
Jamaican jerk chicken breast, black beans, pineapple, sweet red & green pickled peppers and provolone cheese, wrapped in white or wheat tortilla with Jamaican sauce and sour cream;

Skinny Chicken Minis $6.99
Our house-made light chicken salad with apples, cranberries and walnuts served on three mini flour tortillas. Garnished with spring greens, cucumber, and tomato;

Stuffed Clam Appetizer $7.99
*Served daily after 5 p.m.* Three delicious stuffed clams with a light salad, crusty Italian bread with a side of olive oil with grated Romano cheese and course black pepper.

It’s worth a visit, if you can spare a few minutes, for some very good food for reasonable prices, in historic, iconic surroundings.

This place was a pleasant surprise for us. We’ll be back, as we drive the I-95 corridor periodically.
